China’s Vastness Investment Group, a 7.7% shareholder in rare earths play Northern Minerals (ASX: NTU), has requested the Australian junior call an extraordinary meeting of shareholders to vote on the removal of chairman Adam Handley.

In 2024, Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers ordered five Chinese shareholders to divest their stakes in Northern Minerals, an order which at least one of the parties failed to comply with. Last month, Northern Minerals requested an investigation into potential breaches of the orders and successfully obtained a court order to defer its annual general meeting until the end of March while the investigation is conducted.
